Shingo Takagi & Hiromu Takahashi were able to avoid a mess of a quarterfinals match in the New Japan Cup – both beating members of BULLET CLUB. Now instead of getting something resembling the Fingerpoke of Doom – fans get to see members of Los Ingobernables de Japon leave it all in the ring to prove who is the better wrestler. Shingo has eyes on the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, while Hiromu wants to win the New Japan Cup and call out the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Hiromu Takahashi Starts Every Match At 11
Hiromu would start fast, rushing Shingo Takagi into the corner with some forearm smashes. Shingo would get his knee isolated on the ropes before a dropkick, and Hiromu followed up with an inverted Texas Cloverleaf hold. Getting the bottom rope, Shingo would avoid the quick loss – and blocked a Hurricanrana into an electric chair drop!
Wheelbarrow German Suplex would land, before Shingo took this one out to the floor. He drove Hiromu into the barricades before a DDT on the floor. Back into the ring, Shingo ran Hiromu over with a shoulder tackle – before one of his picture perfect vertical suplexes and a knee drop.
Hiromu tried for the single leg takedown, and while he didn’t take Shingo down – he was able to take him over with the backdrop. The running hurricanrana would land on the second attempt, before nailing the Falcon Arrow for a near fall.
Death Valley Driver into the corner was stopped – before Shingo took the fight to the apron. Shingo would take a kick and have to avoid the Sunset Bomb, only for Hiromu to be sent to the floor, sweep the leg and powerbomb him hard onto the floor.
Shingo Takagi Gives His All To Claim A Hard Fought Victory
Back into the ring, Hiromu would land the complete shot in the centre of the ring – but only got a two count. A jab to the jaw and the Yukon Lariat would take Hiromu down, but Shingo still needed some time to recover after that outside powerbomb. Hiromu would take a powerbomb in the ring, with Shingo moving right into the STF after the kick out.
Before Shingo would get the tap out, he’d release the hold and try for a pinfall. Hiromu held on, and Made in Japan was set, but he was able to slip out and hit a snap German Suplex. Shingo would nail the Pumping Bomber and Made in Japan – but only got a near fall.
Last of the Dragon was blocked and Hiromu would get the Wheelbarrow Cradle for a two count. A Canadian Destroyer would follow, but Shingo was able to kick out. However, the damage done to the neck by Chase Owens is now back in play – pins and needles shooting down his arm after the impact.
Time Bomb would land, but Shingo was able to kick out at two. Some superkicks would follow, cutting Shingo down to size. Shingo would hang Hiromu on the ropes and nail the GTR – before Pumping Bomber for yet another near fall. Finally, Last of the Dragon landed – and Shingo Takagi gets the victory.
