The list of Jake Paul’s potential opponents in the mixed martial arts world keeps getting longer. The latest fighter to blast Jake Paul’s good-guy act is UFC upstart Paddy Pimblett. Pimblett, in the latest episode of his Chattin’ Pony podcast, voiced his doubt about Jake Paul’s motivations in his quest for improved fighter pay. In fact, Pimblett called Paul out on the podcast, telling him he would fight him in his mum’s back yard tomorrow.
“I’ll be honest that’s the thing that’s pissing me off about it lad, he’s trying to act like a martyr, like he’s helping MMA fighters. He’s not, lad. He’s just doing that for his own publicity. People are like ‘he’s actually being good for MMA fighters’, he’s not.
Paddy Pimblett to Jake Paul: “If you wanna have an MMA fight, I’ll fight you in me ma’s garden tomorrow”
He just wants to make a show of Dana White and that’s the perfect way of doing it. It’s all about that. The way he’s saying ‘I’m gonna end up getting in the cage’. You’re not, lad. You’re not. Stop lying. If you wanna have an MMA fight, I’ll fight you in me ma’s garden tomorrow. Know what I mean?”
Pimblett, a former Cage Warriors champion, announced his arrival in the UFC with a thunderous first-round knockout win over Luigi Vendramini. He is scheduled to fight at UFC London in March, where he is promising yet another landmark early finish.
Pimblett’s penchant for highlight-reel finishes, including knockouts and flying triangles, his infectious personality, and distinctive blonde-Beatle haircut have made him a rising star in the MMA world.
Pimblett currently competes in the UFC’s lightweight division, where at 155 pounds he is far lighter than the two-hundred-pound-plus Jake Paul. Paul has had no issue fighting men at lower weights than him so far, however, with his opponents tending to come from the UFC’s welterweight division.
However, Jake Paul strongly prefers fighting retired or semi-retired fighters on losing streaks like Ben Askren or Tyron Woodley. An MMA debut against a young, hungry fighter on the rise – like Paddy Pimblett – isn’t exactly in Jake Paul’s wheelhouse.
Paul had made a huge fuss over the issue of UFC fighter pay in recent months, consistently trolling UFC president Dana White over the matter. He released a diss track blasting White, invested in the UFC’s parent company, and has claimed that he wants to start a fighter union.
Is Jake Paul’s quest for improved working conditions among the UFC roster legit, or is Paddy Pimblett right about his self-promotional ways? Let us know in the comments.
