Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been slammed for publicity mongering by voicing their support for the Ukrainian people amid the NAACP awards ceremony in Hollywood.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Slammed For Voicing Their Support For Ukraine At The NAACP Awards-‘A Bit Insensitive’
This was the view of Royal expert Dr Tessa Dunlop. The primary reason why Tessa felt this way was due to the fact that it was being done in the presence of several A-list celebrities and wasn’t backed up by any action, just more words.
Therefore, the couple’s words could have been seen as an attempt to garner extra publicity. Although only they know the intention behind the words, Tessa did not hold back on the reaction that she felt they created.
In an interview, she said: “I genuinely have no issue with the pair, I think they do good work. They have certainly been acknowledged for their work with this award.
“But I found the whole Hollywood aspect of the event, given what was going on in Ukraine, a bit insensitive.” In couple’s defense ,however, it is important to bear this in mind.
First of all, they have a huge public platform. Therefore, by speaking out on such a matter at a star-studded event, it had the potential to influence more people knowing that others would be keeping an eye on the ceremony.
Secondly, if they had decided to stay silent, there is the equal prospect that they could have been condemned for not speaking out in the first place. With that being said, Tessa did recognise that the pair were in a difficult position.
She added: “That is not their fault, that is Hollywood in its own kind of love bubble. They could have toned it down a bit because there was Harry in his tux and he went ‘We all stand by Ukraine.”
Instead, Tessa believes the two could make a bigger difference if they decided to put some active work in behind the words.
And the main way they could do this is to ensure that their Archwell Foundation takes steps to offer any help to those who were suffering.
Tessa’s following comments confirmed as much: “It felt fewer words and more action in this moment I wanted from Harry.” So there you have it folks.
