According to reports by the British press, Prince Harry will not return home for the service in honor of his grandfather, Prince Philip, who passed away in April 2021. The memorial service which is set to hold on March 29 at Westminster Abbey is expected to feature all the members of the royal family including the Queen herself, who was married to Prince Philip for 73 years before his demise, early last year.
Prince Harry Will Skip His Grandfather’s Memorial
News of Prince Harry skipping the remembrance day was broken by royal journalist and author Omid Scobie who tweeted that “A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirms that Prince Harry will not be returning to the UK for the Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Prince Philip on March 29.”
Prince Harry Won’t Return To The UK For His Grandfather’s Memorial
However, he further suggested that the Duke of Sussex is hopeful that he can be in the UK during the anniversary celebrations to see his grandmother. “He does, however, hope to visit the Queen as soon as possible,” he added. Prince Harry’s highly anticipated return to the United Kingdom has been hindered by the current legal tussle between himself and the Home Office after he was denied the authority to pay for private police protection for his family on their return to the UK.
Regardless of the legal case, the Home Office has remained resolute that Harry and his family would not receive the “same degree” of security when coming back from the US.
The Prince Harry had maintained that he wants to return with Meghan Markle and their two children from California to London for the anniversary celebration, but “does not feel safe” to do so without the protection he is pushing to get.
Despite being 9 more months old, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles are yet to meet Lilibet Diana, the last born of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly due to the security permit issues that continue to stand in the way of a potential family reunification.
