Prince Harry will not be returning to the UK to see Queen Elizabeth on her Platinum Jubilee over fears of the reaction that the Royal family will have to his upcoming memoir.
Prince Harry Will Not Attend Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee Over Fears Of The Reaction To His Memoir-‘That Book Will Have A Lot Of Casualties’
That is according to Royal biographer Tom Bower. Harry will have a difficult decision to make on the following grounds.
Not only does he know that Queen Elizabeth is not in a good place with her health, but she has also not managed to see his daughter, Lilibet, in the flesh. Naturally, there is going to be a longing on either side to see each other.
However, if the memoir does turn out to be very critical of certain members of the Royal family, then there could be a similar tension that we had seen at Prince Philip’s funeral when Harry turned up.
At that moment, he returned to the UK at his grandfather’s funeral knowing that his Oprah Winfrey interview came out near the same time that Prince Philip was experiencing his health problems. That is why Tom is not convinced Prince Harry would make a return.
In an official statement, he said: “I think Harry won’t come back because he knows he cannot face his family, and be pleasant with them, knowing what he’s written about them in that book.
“That book will have a lot of casualties and cause a lot of hurt.” Harry could always back down and decide not to release the book.
And yet, given the amount of money that is on the line through his book deal, it will be very hard to walk away from. And as he has to justify receiving a reported $20 million, he has to deliver.
Tom added: “He’s been paid to do it. How can Harry come back and pretend it’s all fine? The worst of what he will say is yet to come.”
If Prince Harry’s presence could create more problems for the monarchy, then it is probably best that he does not return. But in the process of doing that, he could equally attract criticism for abandoning Queen Elizabeth at a time in need.
