Queen Elizabeth has reportedly donated towards a fund that will aid the refugees coming out of Ukraine, as they flee their country amid the Russian war.
Queen Elizabeth II Makes A ‘Private’ Donation To Help With The Relief Efforts In Ukraine
The monarch, herself, has remained quiet during the conflict which is in line with the usual custom of keeping herself away from political affairs.
While that may be the case, it has not stopped other members of the Royal family from expressing their support for Ukraine. This has included Prince Charles, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton who have expressed their solidarity.
But in order to do her part, it looks as though the Queen has resorted to giving financial help. And this is something that she is hardly short of.
According to reports, the Queen decided to give some money towards ‘The Disasters Emergency Committee’ that was working in tandem with organisations such as the British Red Cross, as part of its Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
And in the hope of raising as much money as possible, the British government has reportedly agreed to match any funds that go up to £20 million.
Reporter Chris Ship, who happens to report on Royal matters, had this to say: “The Queen has made a private “generous donation” says the @decappeal to the humanitarian effort to support those in #Ukraine.”
Nevertheless, the response on social media was not too supportive. A certain subset of people questioned where the funds were actually coming from.
People were of the view that this was not a private donation, but in fact was most likely going to be funded by the taxpayer. Naturally, that led to some very divisive comments.
One person wrote: “Not that private. Trust the Monarchy to cash in on this carnage to make itself look good,” while another person stated: “She’s independently worth about 300M, so no not your money.”
As long as the money helps those in need, then that is the most important thing. After all, at a time where people are suffering, the last thing people want to see is bickering over where the funds came from. So there you have it folks?
