Four months after Astroworld tragedy which claimed ten lives and left many injured, Travis Scott vows to honor the victims. The tragic incident occurred on November 5, 2021 where about 50,000 were gathered for the Astroworld concert. The artist, facing heavy lawsuits and criticism about the turn of events, spoke out about a month later stating that he didn’t see any indication that there was distress in the crowd while he was on stage.

On Tuesday, March 8 the 30-year-old rapper released a statement through his Instagram page, announcing his new project, HEAL which is a “multi-tier, long-term series of community-focused philanthropy and investment efforts.” The project is targeted at “supporting real solutions that make all events the safest spaces that can possibly be” and also giving back.

The HEAL project has about $5 million fundings in four various parts; one that directly relates with the Astroworld Tragedy is funding “tech-driven solutions for event safety” where a donation was made to the US conference of Mayors Task Force on event safety.
For this, there will be a working group from the tech sector, the Government, event management, emergency response, health and public safety departments who will all collaborate in ensuring g that large events are safe. This action will prevent such tragic incident from reaccurring.
The other parts the funding takes care of are scholarships for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) students. Mental health resources like digital counseling, licensed professional counseling. social works and telephone hotlines are also funded as part of Project HEAL.
Lastly, Scott plans on expanding CACTUS which is a space where artists, designers and also tech innovators can be creative. Travis stated in his release on Instagram that he had taken time and space to grieve and would “use his resources and platforms towards actionable change” moving forward.
Travis said, “while it’s easy for corporations and institutions to stay in the shadows, I feel as a leader in my community, I need to step up in times of need. Travis, who shares two kids—Stormie and Wolf with Kylie Jenner stated that the change will be “a lifelong journey” for himself and his family.
