On last week’s Smackdown, Ridge Holland hit a belly to belly suplex on Big e on the floor, and it could be the final move in Big E’s wrestling career.
Whether it was mistimed between them or whatever happened, Big E landed on his head and broke two of his vertebrae. While there was no nerve damage, it’s been reported his wrestling career could be over, depending on how the bones heal.
Our thoughts go out to Big E for a speedy recovery. It just shows how fast things can go wrong and why we shouldn’t take the risks wrestlers take for granted.
Every time they step into the ring, they put their lives on the line to entertain us and they’re aways a slip or mistimed move away from serious injury.
While Big E’s career may be in jeopardy, his injury may have also derailed potential plans the WWE had for WrestleMania.
The show must go on
It’s been rumored that the WWE planned to have the New Day face Sheamus, Holland, and Butch at WrestleMania now that Xavier Woods returned from injury, but Big E being hurt obviously changed their plans.
It’s something we’ve seen often enough through the years and why below each card is the asterisk announcement “Card subject to change.”
We’re sure the WWE will come up with some way to make the feud work and have Holland and Butch make their first WrestleMania appearance, even if one of them is only at ringside.
As for the storyline, most likely they’ll have the New Day looking for a measure of payback like they did when Owen Hart broke Steve Austin’s neck.
We’d hope not as it’s not a typical New Day type of angle, but given the severity of the injury and how it’s typical in wrestling to use real world situations in their storylines, we feel safe in expecting this storyline.
At least if the WWE follows through with this storyline is Big E could be at WrestleMania in new Day’s corner, backstage, or in the audience to help add more emotion to the storyline.
It’ll be great to see him moving around even if he’s not part of the action, and with any luck it’ll be a hint of things to come for him.
Big E’s a great presence and he embodies the power of positivity, and we have no doubt he’ll find a way to get back to doing what he loves in some way.
