Adam Cole has failed to claim the AEW World Heavyweight Championship from Hangman Page twice now, but has a new goal in mind. After seeing his partner Britt Baker qualify for the women’s bracket of the Owen Hart Memorial Cup – Cole is ready to qualify for the men’s side of things tonight. However, standing in his path is a deadly opponent, as Cole must figure out a way to take down The Stone Pitbull, Tomohiro Ishii.
Adam Cole Would Be Wise To Not Taunt With Ishii Still Breathing
These two would lock up in the middle of the ring, with Cole being tossed off to the ropes by Ishii. Unable to drop Ishii with a shoulder tackle, Cole would instead be levelled and sent to the outside with a shoulder tackle from The Stone Pitbull instead. Back in the ring, Cole would manage to stomp Ishii into a corner, but took time to taunt – and Ishii would make him pay.
Cole would slip to the outside, and duck a lariat from Ishii – having him instead hit the hard steel of the ring post. Finally able to take control, Cole applied a rear chinlock in the middle of the ring. The second Ishii tried to slip free, Cole would try and drop him. Ishii would hit some headbutts from the mat, before Cole slapped him.
Cole would keep striking Ishii, who was just walking into the strikes – cornering Cole before dropping him with one hard forearm to the jaw. Ishii would follow up with a snap powerslam, before a backdrop suplex for a near fall.
A powerbomb attempt was blocked by Cole, before nailing the Ushigoroshi and a Shining Wizard – getting a two count. Backstabber would follow, but Ishii was not ready to stay down. Cole would look to set up the Panama Sunrise – only to take a shot to the midsection.
Jay White Throws A Wrench In The Plans Of Ishii
Ishii would use the ropes to launch a headbutt to the jaw of Cole, before looking for and nailing a stalling superplex. Cole would be able to kick out at two, despite Ishii grabbing both legs in the pinfall attempt. Sliding Lariat was dodged, before Cole nailed a superkick to the nose.
Cole lowered the kneepad – hoping to nail the Boom, only for Ishii to dodge and hit the sliding lariat right into pinfall. Ishii was looking for the vertical drop brainbuster, only for Cole to hit a knee drop brainbuster instead.
Panama Sunrise was once again dodged, with Ishii nailing a headbutt instead. Cole would stand his ground and hit the enziguri, only for Ishii to show him how that move is done. Big lariat was blocked, before Cole hit a superkick… and walked into the lariat.
Jay White ran to ringside and attacked Rocky Romero, causing a distraction. A low blow and The Boom from Cole, and he advances in this tournament. Remember, BULLET CLUB is for life.
