Over the past year, WWE NXT has gone through quite the list of changes. They rebranded to NXT 2.0, lost many of the biggest names such as Johnny Gargano & Adam Cole – and launched new stars like Bron Breakker. Things have gone quiet well on the men’s side of things, but there was a lot of issues in the early days when it came to a switch in focus for the women’s division – as now revealed by former WWE star, Ember Moon.
Ember Moon Recalls NXT Management Asking Women To ‘Dress Sexy’ For TV
While speaking with Chris Van Vilet recently, Ember Moon would have a chance to clear the air about the final days of her WWE contract. She was part of the NXT roster during the transition, and would have the following to say.
“We would have to sit through stupid meetings about how we’d have to dress sexy. I remember looking at someone else and laughing. I cater to children. I’m not about to wear fishnet booty buttcheek shorts because we had a two-hour meeting about how to dress like Mandy Rose. That’s not fair. Mandy is absolutely phenomenal and an amazing person, but not everyone is Mandy Rose. I started seeing this downslope as soon as Hunter was gone. For the first bit, we didn’t know why, we just knew he wasn’t there. I got so angry. I was sitting there thinking, ‘I did nothing wrong. I didn’t piss off Vince.'”
Mandy Rose has been the face of the women’s division since the relaunch, as part of the Toxic Attraction faction. Rose is at 182 days in her first reign as NXT Women’s Champion, and recently defeated Roxanne Perez on NXT 2.0.
Athena’s Next Moves In Wrestling Remain Unclear
Since leaving WWE, Ember Moon has been able to return to her previous persona of ‘Athena’, and has been able to work around the United States for smaller promotions. She’s had some standout matches, like a thirty minute time limit draw against AEW World Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa.
There is a large section of fans who are hoping that Athena will be joining the AEW roster, as she is truly one of the best in-ring talents around on the free agent market. Spots are hard to comeby in AEW right now, but Athena would be well worth the money.
