One thing that’s pretty common in sports and entertainment are predictions. We all love to try to pick our favorites or who will win, and when someone in the know says something we tend to pay more attention.
Chris Jericho has shown he’s not big on caring what others think or say about him, and as such he’s open with his opinions on many topics. And for better or worse, he’s made a doozy of a prediction on April 1.
Granted, the timing of it could be an April Fool’s joke, but it’d be in poor taste in a few ways. That gives us reason to think he’s being honest in predicting Tony Kahn will rule the pro wrestling world in North America.
Prediction. @TonyKhan is going to take over both the #SportsEntertainment AND #ProWrestling business in North America within the next 5 years. So let it be written…so let it be done!

Long game
Jericho’s prediction came after ROH Supercard of Honor XV.
“Prediction. @TonyKhan is going to take over both the #SportsEntertainment AND #ProWrestling business in North America within the next 5 years. So let it be written…so let it be done!”
Not only has Tony Kahn’s AEW proven to be the second top promotion in the US, but he garnered even more attention when he purchased ROH and labeled it as AEW’s developmental brand.
In many ways, AEW is as expansive as the WWE show wise, though they’re still working to break into the mainstream like the WWE did in the 1980s.
With AEW being a fan favorite in many ways as they have young and old school wrestlers, there’s a chance for Jericho’s prediction to come true.
Of course, given Vince McMahon is 76 years old and the WWE is rumored to sell to Disney or NBC in the next year or so, there’s every chance he’s right.
After all, the driving force behind the WWE is Vince, and while the storytelling isn’t what it was, he knows how to maximize presentation and top flight graphics to get lucrative TV contracts.
Possible scenarios
One of those deals came from selling the streaming rights of the WWE Network to Peacock for $1 billion, helping to set a record for a sports entertainment company’s income in 2021.
Should Vince retire or sell the company, AEW will be in a perfect position to take over the top spot as many have suggested the WWE will struggle even more without Vince at the helm.
To add some fun intrigue to the discussion for fans, Windham Rotunda (Bray Wyatt) replied to Jericho’s tweet with: “Tell him I can babysit the Jaguars if he gets too busy.”
It can be argued Windham’s hinting at joining AEW, but given the timing it’s most likely a tease.
What do you think about Jericho’s prediction? Will it happen or will the WWE hold on?
