Reality TV star and business mogul Kim Kardashian blew a lot of minds when she recently unveiled pictures from her shapewear, underwear, and loungewear brand—SKIMS during a campaign for the brand. In the campaign pictures, she featured supermodels Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Candice Awanepoel, and Alessandra Ambrosio.
The Controversial SKIMS Campaign That Got People Talking
In the pictures, all models were wearing SKIMS products, including Kim who revealed on Monday that she could not resist “jumping in” to take the campaign pictures with the other models. “OK so I wasn’t supposed to be in this Skims campaign but I stopped by and jumped in because it was too iconic,” Kim captioned the pictures on Twitter. The photo shoot turned out well promoting the “fit everybody range.”
However, fans seem to disagree as to the message the pictures were passing across. What several people find problematic about the photoshoot is Tyra’s image in the pictures, many believe that it had been tampered with during editing such that her waist looks slimmer compared to what they know Tyra’s waist to be. A certain Reddit user compared Tyra’s body in the SKIMS promotional video to that which was shown in the pictures and concluded they were not similar body shapes.
“Appalled to see the amount of photoshop done to Tyra Banks’ body in Kim Kardashian’s news SKIMS campaign. For a brand that prides themselves on body positivity and inclusivity, this is low.” A Reddit user wrote. Another fan tweeted saying “these pics are stunning but Tyra looked so gorgeous naturally and this editing is so bizarre and unnecessary?”
Their bodies are nowhere near this identical in real life. this is insane to me” added an Instagram user. Although this is not the first-time fans would throw blames at the SKIMS owner for photoshopping bodies of models, and although Kim has not addressed the issues directly, fans look to be right as the SKIMS brand was to encourage body positivity but is doing the opposite by photoshopping pictures to hide what society has labeled imperfect.
