Is the Elon Musk takeover a good or a bad thing? There are colorful opinions on this.
It is evident that censorship is present in all media. But Twitter has become one of the most censoring platforms on the internet. The Twitterati have spoken. They want changes. All of the suggested changes that Elon had in mind.
Polls Show That Majority Of Americans Support Elon Musk’s Twitter Saga
People have expressed general satisfaction. They said that this is the beginning of a new era in which censorship doesn’t have a place. Others have countered this by saying that the revised policies of ‘no control’ and ‘no censuring’ will create a spark that will light the hate speech and bullying on the internet into a big fire.
A recent poll obtained by ‘The Post’ has unveiled that plenty of American citizens have shown support and cheered the wealthy businessman on his adventurous investment to buy the social media platform Twitter.
And this is not the only poll that showed this. Rasmussen Reports have shown more or less the same thing. Moreover, they published that over 60% of adult citizens in the USA think that Elon’s purchase of Twitter will make it a better platform.
Most of these positive answers to the polls were coming from people who do not have anything to do with censorship. People who want the truth, and don’t benefit from unchecked news and filtered news. The great majority of these positive poll votes were from people over 40 years old, most of them with lower incomes.
On the contrary to the positive results above, there have been some answers not so fond of the new owner. Around 20% of the participants in the poll express themselves as less likely to use Twitter once the owner is changed. A majority of these people show to be open democrats and/or government employees.
A question has arisen now. Will Twitter become a Republican-only club?
The polls and questionnaires surely suggest so. Even though conservatives have greeted the billionaire as a liberator of the platform, this may not be completely true.
A study by The Atlantic suggests that censorship will not be put to an end now, but ‘modified’. Meaning democrat-influenced accounts may face more censorship than conservatives.
Why is this so? Because they are aware that the previous running board of members was working the other way around?
Now, the people are against any kind of censorship or at least equal censorship on both sides. As with everything in life, here we need some kind of balance as well.
We are looking forward to a more ‘open’ platform where the people will be free to express themselves without the worry of being censored. Isn’t that the whole point of modern society and democracy?
