Since leaving WWE, it’s been hard to deny the success of Matt Cardona. Long seen as a midcarder during his time as Zack Ryder, Cardona has completely reinvented himself – and has found amazing success. From his heel work in GCW and Impact Wrestling, to winning the prestigious NWA World Heavyweight Championship – Cardona has been on fire. Now, he’s claimed a seventh championship, and needs promoters to stop giving him title shots.
Matt Cardona Needs To Stop Collecting Belts
Taking to Twitter after winning the ASW Heavyweight Championship, Cardona would have the following to say.
Dear wrestling promoters,
Please stop booking me against your champions. My suitcase is too heavy and is ripping.
Love,
Matt Cardona
He would include a picture of all his championships. Right now, Cardona holds the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Impact Wrestling Digital Media Championship, both the AIW Intense Championship & AIW Absolute Championship, and the NYWC World Title. Finally he has his personal Internet Championship.
The Best Run Of His Entire Career Is Just Getting Started
Right now, Cardona is having one the best runs of his career. Being cut from the WWE roster, and not getting a solid footing in AEW forced him to really find his own path on the indies. The results have been amazing, with matches against the likes of Nick Gage, Jon Moxley & Joey Janela in GCW being some of the most interesting of his career.
The best part is – things are just getting started for Cardona. At just 36 years old, Cardona is in the prime of his career – and with his massive hype? He could even claim the top prize in Impact Wrestling soon, or find himself in the now Tony Khan owned Ring of Honor.
The future remains very bright for Cardona, and he’s almost become the new blueprint for how to reinvent yourself following a WWE release. No one has hit the ground running quite like him. It could change how WWE releases show themselves. Angry promos are out, reinvention is in.
