Team Six Or Nine have been having issues with El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori attacking them over the past month or so. Finally, they have a chance to shut up these challengers – and prove their reign as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions has legs. Taguchi & Wato have really been able to gel as a team, but is it enough to defeat one of the top teams in the division?
The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Get Truly Tested
Taguchi would kick off action against Ishimori, tripping him up by the leg before being taken into a wrist lock. Ishimori would gain complete control as completed the tag to ELP, before Wato was able to tag in. Since becoming a champion, Wato has really improved with his kicks – and they’d be enough to get ELP taken down.
Team Six Or Nine would set up a tag team hip attack in the corner – with Wato trying to deliver both opponents into the glutes of steel that Taguchi has. Instead, Wato met his down partner – before Ishimori was able to hit a super back rack. Ishimori would show his blinding speed as he cut Taguchi down to size for a near fall – but wouldn’t be able to keep the veteran down.
Wato got the tag – diving into a dropkick from ELP. He’d get hung in the tree of woe before some sliding dropkicks to the face. ELP & Wato would go for the double groin press, before Taguchi was yanked crotch first into the face of his own partner upon attempting the save. ELP would go for a massive lionsault, but Wato was able to avoid it.
Team Six Or Nine Remain Champions In Very Taguchi Like Fashion
Taguchi would get the tag into the match, and was unable to nail some hip attacks as both opponents were on the ropes, before a springboard variant. Three Amigos were attempted, with two vertical suplexes being followed by a superplex. A kick and hip attack later, ELP was down for a two count.
Wato would nail a diving double stomp – but Ishimori broke the pinfall up. ELP would toss Wato into a Codebreaker from Ishimori, before hitting Best Moonsault Ever. A UFO would follow, and Wato would barely kick out, before Thunder Kiss ‘86. The diving splash would have been enough, but Taguchi made the save.
Taguchi was cut down, before Wato was able to block the attempt at Sudden Death. He’d catch the superkick and send the foot of ELP into the face of Ishimori. Taguchi would miss a springboard hip attack and take a kick to the back of the head – before being able to get a near fall off a Jacknife cover. Cradle pin would follow, but ELP was able to keep in the fight. He’d yank the tights of Taguchi down, only to get caught with a flash pinfall!
Taichi Tosses Toru Yano From The Ring
Toru Yano is once again set to defend the King of Pro Wrestling championship. After locking Minoru Suzuki in a dog cage, he will now match up with another hard hitter in Taichi. Yano has pitched a Cherry Blossom Party Match, while Taichi wants a No-Rope Ring-Out Match.
It’s either an elaborate drinking contest or a sumo fight but either way – fans are going to see something unique with this match. Taichi would get his way, so here in Sumo Hall – we’re getting something resembling a sumo battle. However, Taichi doesn’t want to be disrespectful, and refuses to call this a ‘sumo match’ – and just borrows some of the rules.
The ropes were taken off the ring specifically for this match, with the ring crew showing great efficiency. Both men would don sumo belts as this match began. Taichi would go right at Yano, and nearly send him tumbling to the floor – but Yano was saved by the ring post.
Yano tried for the irish whip – not a traditional sumo move, but Taichi blocked. They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring – before Yano looked for a body slam attempt. Yano would hit a low blow, before taking an enziguri. The referee was thrown from the ring – before Yano & Taichi would battle for control – with Yano tossed to the floor! Taichi claims the KOPW 2022 trophy… for now. He’d call out Shingo Takagi to battle for this trophy, saying he has nothing else going on right now.
