That is according to marketing expert Pauline Maclaran. The couple, for their part, have not returned to the UK as a pair ever since they left the Royal family in 2020.
Harry has made his own appearances, including the unveiling of a statue in honour of his late mother Princess Diana, as well as attending Prince Philip’s funeral.
There had been an expectation that the pair may attend last month’s memorial service for Philip, but sadly, they were nowhere to be seen.
And this continual distancing from the Royal family is not aiding their cause. In a statement, Pauline said: “I think they need to really top up their associations with royalty.
“Because without their royal connections they really are nobodies in the US, which is where they’re trying to establish themselves.”
Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, it has only been around 2 years since they left the monarchy.
And trying to compete with the brand established by the Royal family is always going to be a tough task, let alone doing it within a matter of two years.
Secondly, the couple have attempted to distinguish themselves from the Royal Family. Unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton, the duo have attempted to cross over into the celebrity world.
Meghan’s appearance on ’The Ellen Degeneres Show,’ alongside Harry appearing on the ‘Late Late Show With James Corden,’ was a testament to that. And yet, Pauline felt that the hype surrounding them was simply because of their Royal past.
She added: “The high profile is really because of their titles and their associations with British royalty. They’re developing a kind of rival brand, or court, or however you like to describe it.
“But I do think the longer they stay away they lose that royal magic.” Ultimately, the couple have to do what is best for them.
