Prince Andrew’s appearance at Prince Philip’s memorial was a clear message that Queen Elizabeth II did not care what others had to say.
Queen Elizabeth II Showed ‘We Are United As A Family’ By Allowing Prince Andrew’s Appearance At Prince Philip’s Memorial
That is according to Royal expert Nick Bullen. There were initially conflicting reports over whether Andrew was going to attend, especially since he had been involved in a sexual assault case against Virginia Giuffre.
While Andrew did manage to settle outside of court, public opinion was not on Andrew’s side. And yet, in a strong statement of defiance, Andrew accompanied the Queen.
In the picture here, we can see that Andrew is walking with the monarch, as they lock arms, to make sure that she is fine. He does not seem to be fazed by others looking at him, nor does the Queen have the slightest worry over the reaction.
And that for Nick was very significant. In an interview with Fox News, he said: “I believe that by having Prince Andrew by her side, the queen was sending a very clear message – ‘we are united as a family.’
“A family that had come together from across the globe to celebrate a remarkable life.” In Andrew’s defence, it is possible to state that he was paying respects to his father.
Therefore, there should be a distinction between his personal actions and an event that was designed to honour someone that had passed. Nevertheless, the response on social media was anything but that.
A significant proportion of people blasted Andrew over the audacity he had shown in being able to show himself publicly, especially in light of what he had been accused of as part of the wider Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
One person wrote: “Who knew peados could make such good walking aides? The tone deafness here is unreal. Time to abolish this circus completely.”
In reality, whether Andrew had attended or not, it was always going to be headline news. And now that he has made an appearance, it is probably wise that he keeps a low profile.
