The Royal family have been criticised over their approach towards Prince Andrew following his sexual assault case settlement against Virginia Giuffre.
Reporter Criticises The Royal Family’s Attempts To Rehabilitate Prince Andrew-‘It Was A Callous And Crude Attempt To Rehabilitate A Disgraced Man’
In the aftermath of the settlement, Andrew was pictured attending Prince Philip’s memorial. That was one thing, but he was also the main person accompanying Queen Elizabeth II as he held her arm while they walked to the ceremony.
And given that the Epstein scandal is still very fresh in the memory, the monarchy had a PR disaster in showing Andrew off to the public. Reporter Brian Reade had this to say: “He…escort[ed] the monarch to her seat.
“It was a callous and crude attempt to rehabilitate a disgraced man with an indecent haste by those at the top of this country.” Brian’s comments are telling for the following reasons.
First of all, it has barely been a month since Andrew struck up the settlement. And given that other women are vying for justice in the Epstein scandal, Andrew’s appearance was seen in poor taste.
Secondly, it sends out the message that powerful people cannot be held to account. And as a member of the Royal family, the law has to apply to all regardless of a person’s standing.
Nazir Afzal, a former prosecutor, stated the following: “I’m all for rehabilitation but it starts with facing justice, accepting responsibility and working to rebuild victims’ confidence. None of that is present here so far.”
The response on social media was equally damning. People felt that Andrew’s behaviour typified the need to get rid of the monarchy.
One person wrote: “That’s why we should get rid of these f***kers they are a total embarrassment…why should we put up with these morons!”
It is clear that public opinion is not on Andrew’s side, but the harsh reality is that the Royal family will continue to back him. After all, he is the son of the monarch which has put the Queen in a very difficult position.
And yet, surely something has to give. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
