Ric Flair is scheduled to have his final match on July 31, 2022, in Memphis, Tennessee. The event will be promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions and Flair has been training with Jay Lethal to get the rust and cobwebs out.
However, an opponent hasn’t been selected for the Nature Boy. Let’s look at my five picks for the last match of Naitch’s career.
Ricky Steamboat: Not Happening
You’d think he would be much higher on the list—and you’d be 100-percent correct. Technically, he should be number one here but that’s only because he already turned the match down. The Dragon could possibly physically do the match and gave it some thought but he said that he’d rather have his match against Chris Jericho be the last in-ring memory fans had of him.
Still, Steamboat is one of a small handful of major Flair rivals around who could still wrestle a match with him.
Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair: Possible
The Hulkster is someone that can always be lured out of retirement for the right payday. While their matches over the years have been mixed bags once they went down, they always had buzz behind them. Of course, that was all almost 30 years ago but these two are still the two biggest names from the throwback era still kicking.
Also, who knows if Hogan could turn down being Flair’s last opponent.
Ricky Morton: Likely
While he was never a rival or foe of Flair for a lengthy program, he did have a feud with him in 1986 over who the female fans liked more, apparently. I remember this feud in parts but I remember the wonderful Great American Bash 1986 match over the World title in a cage.
Now, Morton can still go at 65 and he’s in the neighborhood. Tennessee is his state but even if the show was held in Charlotte, Morton’s still active in the business to the point that he’d hit the road to face Flair.
Jay Lethal: Very Likely
Of everyone on this list, Lethal is definitely one of two safe picks—Morton being the other—and one that could guarantee a somewhat decent send off for the Nature Boy. This would be like doing an exhibition boxing match with your training partner and people coming to see it.
With that said, Lethal has had ring time with the wrestling legend recently and would know firsthand what Flair can, can’t, and shouldn’t do in the ring as well as his pace.
Sting: Likely
One of Flair’s eternal foes, the Stinger would probably be the choice pick if Flair was sticking to foes of the past. At the moment, he’s in special attraction mode and chilling in a fan-favorite team with Darby Allin in All Elite Wrestling. I think that wrestling your most persistent menace in their final match falls under “special attraction”.
Honorable Mention: The Broom
Listen, Ric Flair has been talking really recklessly about the wrestling ability of the broom over the years. You know, saying that he could make the broom look like a million dollars as if it’s a garden variety jabroni.
Maybe July 31, 2022, is the day that the broom finally puts Flair to the test and makes him prove it. How about them apples, huh?
Which of these five do you believe could face Ric Flair in his final match? Also, give us some names that weren’t considered in the comments!
