Video footage leaks these days of Dana White convincing Khabib to take a fight in the octagon once again, but for a great reason.
Khabib Nurmagomedov retires back in 2020 after his win over Justin Gaethje a the UFC 254, where he takes the win by submission – a triangle choke. He is remembered as the undefeated UFC fighter going to retirement as one of the greats, with a shiny record of 29-0-0. Throughout his UFC career, which starts in 2012, he has fifteen bouts and no losses. He has close to 50% submission ends and around a 30% KO rate.
Dana White Is Trying To Convince Khabib Nurmagomedov To Fight Conor McGregor Again
In the video, which is taken at the UAE Warriors event, Khabib and Dana seat next to each other. Dana White closes to Khabib and kind of ‘mocks’ the Russian telling him that the following McGregor vs Poirier fight is trending better than his fight with The Notorious.
“This fight with Poirier is trending bigger than the fight with you and Conor on pay-per-view. Imagine what you and Conor would do in another fucking fight. Just saying. I’m just saying,” – Dana says with a smile on his face.
He knows that what’s to imagine is a pile of money for him, the UFC, and for both fighters. However, some things are reversible.
We all know that money can change many things. They can make up someone’s mind as fast as a light switch. But, the Russian’s mind is not so easy to change. He has retired due to his father’s death. His father was his mentor, his trainer, his life coach, and his support. As Khabib says, his career in the octagon would not make sense without his father waiting for him in the corner.
Abdulmanap has shown to be a very successful coach. Khabib now is trying to follow in his footsteps as he takes on the prodigy Islam Makhachev. He plans to do with him, what his father did to him. Rise him all the way to the top and make him the next lightweight champion. This would start a trend of fearing the Dagestan-born fighters.
Nevertheless, this trend is already starting. Look at Islam’s most recent fights, look at Khamzat Chimaev’s career launch after his win over Gilbert Burns. Look at Magomed Ankalaev and his perfect eight-win streak.
It is a matter of time when Islam will be given a title shot. But one is certain, he will have the shot to the title. The same applies to Khamzat Chimaev. However, a return from ‘retirement’ for Khabib seems not possible.
But who knows, maybe he will change his mind. What do you think? Will he return as a fighter?
