Holly Holmes is a UFC Fighter who has been fighting in the promotion since 2015. During this period she has amassed more than 10 bouts and 7 wins.
When we think of her, we initially recall her famous leg kick that sent Ronda Rousey straight into the knockout back at the UFC 193 in 2015. However, ever since, her career has not been so great. After the Rousey bout, she has a three streak loss which she tries to correct in 2019 and 2020. And she apparently did. Her most recent two fights are wins by a decision against Irene Aldana at the UFC ESPN 16, and against Raquel Pennington at the UFC 246.
Holly Holmes Is Back, Will Face Ketlen Vieira At UFC Vegas 55
She wants to continue this winning streak, however, she is stopped in the attempt due to an injury, or we might better say illness. She drops out of the planned bouts due to hydronephrosis, or a kidney affliction. Following this, she faces a knee injury and she is out of the game for a long period after that.
“I’m super frustrated. I definitely am on the mend. I hope to be back in there, back training, and get back in there. I’m feeling a little better. I had to take care of some things. It is super frustrating, especially when I see people fighting, especially Nunes vs. Pena, but all the time. Any time I watch the fights, it’s so frustrating cause I want to get in there so badly.
I don’t want to embrace not being able to fight but I’ve been very fortunate to have a career where I’ve been pretty active. This last year’s had some stuff that’s been kind of from left field. I’m handling it, and I’m going to keep pushing forward. I’m not going to let it break me and I want to be back in there very soon.” – she says for MMA fighting.
Her wish comes true two years later. Now, in 2022, she will finally face an opponent in the octagon. After two whole years, she will face Ketlen Vieira at the UFC Vegas 55.
Ketlen “Fenomeno” Vieira is a professional fighter with a record of 12-2-0 and became famous with her latest win against Miesha Tate, back in November 2021, at the UFC Fight Night 198. Fenomeno’s fighting background is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and she is a very powerful striker.
This bout is a promising and exciting one due to two reasons. Firstly, the obvious one, the return of a legendary fighter, and secondly the importance of the fight for both contenders. Holly Holmes might get a direct title shot against Nunes if she comes out victorious from the bout. The same applies to Ketlen as well, however, she has one more reason to want the win. If she wins this, she is defeating a legend. And those wins are remembered for a long time after the fight.
