Controversial character is not the only thing that connects Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather. Successful careers is not the only thing as well.
Once before these two were fond of each other. Once before they were friends. However, the turn of events is such that after some period their fondness fades away. On the contrary, they start beef with each other which does neither good nor bad for the both of them.
Why Do Mike Tyson And Floyd Mayweather Hate Each Other?
Their quality is not something that we can question. Both fighters are number one in their eras. And unfortunately, there is no overlap between the reign spans of the two, so the chances of Mike meeting Floyd in the ring are none.
Their names in the boxing world mean a lot. They are still a motivation for many newcomers and many current fighters. However, their relationship is not getting better with time. The rivalry is not in the ring, but outside of it.
The modern way to trash talk someone is to post something for him on social media or say something in an interview (written or verbal). And that is what they regularly do.
Tyson for instance is a subject to an interview from Essentially Sports recently, where he politely avoids acknowledging Mayweather’s titles. When asked how many titles Mayweather has, he gives a rather political answer.
“In boxing, there are never enough belts because every bout we fight like it’s a championship fight, it’s more money for the fighter. There are not enough belts. To be clear, there is one champion and there are 10 other guys, how long will it take for that champion to fight those 10?”
Nevertheless, this exchange of disrespect starts many years ago. It allegedly starts with Tyson’s accusation of Mayweather for sexually harassing and abusing a woman. No proof of this accusation has been revealed until now, however, this left a stain on Mayweather’s career.
As a response to this, the ‘Money’ calls the police to Tyson’s mansion to search for drugs. When this happens, Tyson is furious. Obviously, they didn’t find anything, but this is not something that Tyson remembers with a smile on his face.
Many are arguing about who the greatest boxer of all time is. Some say that Muhammad Ali is unquestionably the GOAT and keeps that title righteously. Others claim that Tyson’s style is much more advanced and he should be considered the best boxer of all time. However, Floyd Money Mayweather has something else on his mind.
He says that he is undeniably the best boxer of all time. The conclusion is made on the fact that he does not have any defeats in his long career and has had a seat on the throne for such a long time.
In our point of view, all three boxers are undeniably great. All of them have something to be proud of, however, the title of a GOAT needs to stay in the hands of the one who has it initially – Muhammad Ali.
And the other two, seem to not have any plan for stopping the beef any time soon. We will see and hear much more of them in the period to follow.
