Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the best fighters that ever stepped inside the octagon. He is famous for his endless endurance and brutal force. Being one of the best wrestlers that the world has seen, his early retirement came unexpectedly and shocked the MMA fans all over the world.
Genetically, the people from the Caucasus region have a blessing that gifts them with a massive force, and incredible endurance. Moreover, if they put in a little bit of work and dedication to some discipline that requests physical potential they are extremely successful. And that is the story of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nevertheless, that is the story of Khabib’s prodigy – Islam Makhachev.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Demands A Title Shot – Claims His Prodigy Islam Makhachev Deserves It
Wrestling in Dagestan is like Rugby in New Zealand, or like Baseball in the USA. But this comes with only one difference there – training wrestling for the children in Dagestan is a must. They look at it as something that men should in any case know to do.
They should be strong and they should know how to wrestle. And to be honest, this is a perfect way to build up strength in children. Through game and training, they become little machines that grow up to be potential beasts.
Islam Makhachev follows Khabib’s footsteps almost perfectly. He has a professional record of 22-1-0, the only loss being from Adriano Martins back in 2015. That’s why I say almost. Khabib does not have a loss in his whole career. Nevertheless, his fighting style, his endurance, his moves, everything reminds of Khabib when he was active. Now that he has him under his wing, only the sky is the limit. The greatest is his teacher. The only thing that he needs to do now is to listen to him.
Many things happened before, during, and after the UFC 274. Oliveira misses weight, Gathje receives a choke, Ferguson receives a foot in the face, Rose Namajunas receives a boring defeat, and the tabloids are full of stories regarding the event. It was a complete center shot for Dana White and the UFC.
The Dagestan team is not silent after the event as well. Khabib sees an opportunity for his trainee to get a title shot and he fires straight away.
“Dana White, you have no other choice but to make Oliveira vs Islam fight in Abu Dhabi on October 22. Perfect date, perfect location, perfect opponents with perfect winning streaks, 10 vs 11. Why does Islam Makhachev have to do contender fight, if there’s no champion in this division?” – Khabib slams.
Dana, in some past interviews, confirms that he does have thoughts about matching these two, but until now there is no confirmation for it. He even says that Joe Rogan himself urges him to match Makhachev and Oliveira. It is good to know that the head of the UFC is giving thought to this, but it will be even better if he tries to arrange it.
What do you think, does Islam have what it takes to fight Oliveira? How would such an event end?
