Due to the mobility issues that Queen Elizabeth II now faces after she fell ill some weeks ago, the Queen has had to cut down on some of her public appearances, one of such was the opening of Parliament that took place on Tuesday, May 10. The Queen then granted Prince Charles and Prince William permission to stand in for her. While Prince Charles was fulfilling this, royal fans noticed something.
Prince Charles Complained About Being “Uncomfortable”
When the Prince arrived at the House of Parliament, he got down from his car along with the Duchess of Cornwall. However, before the pair went into the building, they spoke for a bit. Jeremy Freeman, an expert in lip reading said that when Charles got out of the car, he gave a remark to show that he was ‘uncomfortable.’ The lip reader said that when Charles spoke to the Duchess, he said, “Oh my word that was uncomfortable.”
Lip Reader Claims Prince Charles Was ‘Uncomfortable’ As He Stood In For Queen Elizabeth At A Royal Event
The prince, who is also heir to the throne read the Queen’s speech as he sat next to both the Duchess of Cornwall and his son, Prince William. Prince Charles has gone together with his mother to the opening of parliament a few times but he has never read the speech.
The government’s plans for the year along with the announcement of bills were in the Queen’s speech. This is the third time the Queen would miss the opening of the parliament in 70 years as a Monarch. The other two times was when she was pregnant with her sons—Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Although the Queen has missed a number of events this year, Prince Charles has been able to fill in for her for most of them.
He did so for the Easter Maundy service, the Commonwealth Day service and also Remembrance Sunday. Prince William has also stood in for the Queen for some other occasions. While Royal fans and citizens are wishing the Queen a fast recovery, the Buckingham Palace announced the previous week that the Queen’s presence at all the events for Platinum Jubilee is not guaranteed yet.
