A recent review has shown that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would be jeered at if they showed up at the balcony for the Queen’s Jubilee festivities in June 2022. The royal couple are expected in the UK ahead of the platinum celebrations. However, the Sussexes will not be part of the royal family members that will join the Queen on the balcony. This comes after the monarch decided that only active royal family members would join her on the balcony.
Reacting to the Queen’s decision, Daily Express Columnist Carole Malone maintains that the royal couple would not be well received if they joined the monarch on the balcony. In a column published in early May 2022, she penned, “Of course, Meghan and Harry will hate the fact they’ve been lumped into the Bad Royals Box with Prince Andrew.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Would Get Booed At The Platinum Jubilee, Shocking Poll Discloses
Because comparisons will be made that all three of them have disgraced the Royal Family, trashed its reputation and hurt people who did nothing to deserve it. And it’s a good thing they won’t be on the balcony – it might have been the first time ever that a royal has been booed by the crowds.”
Reacting to Ms. Malone’s comments, Express.co.uk asked for the views of readers on if they would boo the Sussexes or not. The poll began by 12pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022 and ended by 10am on Monday, May 16, 2022. Readers were asked, “Would you boo Meghan and Harry if they appeared on the palace balcony?”
The results of the poll showed that over 35,000 people, which are about 87% of total voters, would boo the Sussexes if they showed up at the palace balcony. In the comment box, a reader even remarked, “As the Queen steps out I would cheer followed by other senior royals who would also be cheered but as this pair stepped out (if they were going to) I would certainly be tempted to boo.”
The result of the poll shows that it will take a lot for the Sussexes to win back the support of the Brits. The royal couple lost the support of many Brits when they resigned from their official duties for a private life in the US.
