Ace Austin tasted his first defeat in NJPW at the hands of Hiromu Takahashi, but tonight has a very winnable match against YOH. YOH was able to get a set of wins over Clark Connors & Yoshinobu Kanemaru – but has been lacking in fire even during his victories. Austin meanwhile is looking to win as many matches as possible, even just to avoid potential X-Division challengers.
Ace Austin Keeps Up With The Leaders Of The Belt
After selling out his Meet & Greet earlier in the day, Austin almost felt like he had a hometown edge in this match. Austin has truly gotten over with the fans in Japan, and would show why with a drop toehold into a low angle kick. YOH would miss a dropkick before having his finger sliced with the laminated card out of view of the official.
YOH would send Austin to the floor before a plancha right onto the X-Division Champion. Back in the ring, he’d get a one count. Austin would send YOH to the floor before the Soar To Glory landed. Back in the ring, a double jump leg drop would land to the neck.
YOH would hit a series of German Suplexes, before looking for Direct Drive – which was scouted perfectly. House of Cards and Fold would follow, getting Austin the victory – pushing upwards to six points. YOH is starting to flounder, but is not in as dire circumstances as he was in 2021.
DOUKI Steals The Win In Incredible Fashion
El Phantasmo has been on a roll in this tournament, with a perfect 3-0 record due to some questionable tactics. He faces another rulebreaker tonight however, and DOUKI is looking to prove he belongs in the BOSJ field. Defeating ELP would shut up his doubters – and prevent a clean sweep.
These two started off fast with ELP winning out with a shoulder tackle, before being sent to the floor with a hurricarana. DOUKI came off the apron with a DDT to ELP, before soaring from the crowd with a crossbody and almost claimed the countout win.
ELP responded by tossing DOUKI from the ring to the floor, before a top rope moonsault. Back in the ring, DOUKI would be hit with some rapid offense from ELP – capped off with a Liger Bomb for the two count. UFO would land, but DOUKI kicked out. He’d avoid the Sudden Death superkick, and hit an enziguri.
ELP would step back to avoid a seemingly botched Daybreaker DDT – only to be caught in a cradle pinfall. DOUKI would get a shock victory, handing ELP his first loss of the tournament!
