When put against the threat of elimination, Francesco Akira was able to show his true colours – pulling off some big time wins, but few matches have been as big as tonight. He faces the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, who is currently leading the A-Block at 10 points. Akira could get the most important tie-breaker of the tournament, while also pushing towards a potential spot in the finals. Ishimori needs to keep winning if he wants to stay away from the same threat, so both men are expected to go all out here tonight.
Taiji Ishimori Closes In On Winning The A-Block
Akira would kick things off quickly, forcing Ishimori into the corner. Ishimori would have raked the eyes, before being sent to the floor. A 619 would land, before Akira hit a dive to the floor. Ishimori would catch Akira into a lawn dart type move, before driving him shoulder first into the ring post.
Back into the ring, Ishimori used a previously exposed corner to further punish the shoulder. Akira would be able to hit a dropkick to the ribs off a springboard dive. He would try and keep moving with some lariats, and a wheelbarrow set up into the double stomp – which might have been a bit close to a low blow.
Speedfire was blocked, with Ishimori hitting an armbreaker to regain control. Back handspring from Ishimori was caught into a German Suplex. Ishimori would hit a Destroyer, only for Akira to bounce back and hit the double knee smash to the face.
Spanish Fly from the top rope would get Akira a near fall. Ishimori would manage to lock in the Bone Lock, but Akira would find the bottom rope. Speedfire got another near fall, before Ishimori hit Cipher UTAKI and Bloody Cross for the finish. Ishimori reaches 12 points, with Hiromu Takahashi being the only man who can stop him.
Two Former Champions Battle To Remain In The Fight
Robbie Eagles has a chance to get both two points, and some more sweet revenge here tonight. El Desperado was the man who ended his first reign as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion just before BOSJ 28, and is one of the leaders of the B-Block here tonight. Eagles knows he can beat Desperado – having won the belt from Desperado. Tonight, he just needs to wrestle a perfect match – and Desperado will be doing everything possible to keep his strong record into the final night of this tournament.
Eagles would get his eye poked to start this match, before having an arm drag blocked. Desperado would take the armdrag on the second attempt, before Eagles teased a dive to the floor. Eagles would follow him to the floor in time, and push off the ringpost for an arm drag.
Desperado would shoot back with a short Dragon Screw leg whip, before applying a leg lock around the ring post. Eagles was taken into the Indian Deathlock in the middle of the ring, but was able to break free. Blindside elbow would land, before Desperado was sent to the floor. Cannonball senton to the floor would land, before Eagles hit a cutter in the ring.
Double Knee Strike would land in the corner, risking his knees for some damage. Desperado would hit a fast dragon screw, before going for the Numero Dos. Eagles shot towards the ropes and out of the ring. He’d block the dive from Desperado with a kick, before a dropkick from the apron to the knee.
Robbie Eagles Earns Another Important Tie-Breaker
Both men had issues getting to their feet, with a double countout possible. They made the ring by 19, with Eagles trying to lock in the Ron Miller Special. He’d be able to apply the hold, but Desperado grabbed the bottom rope.
A spinebuster was blocked into the Asai DDT, with Eagles jamming his knee on the way down leading to a slow pinfall. 450 Splash would miss, and Desperado hit the chopblock into Numero Dos. Eagles would force the break with the bottom rope, but Desperado was quickly able to reapply the hold.
The hold was broken, only for Eagles to end up in perfect position for the bastard driver for a near fall. Pinche Loco was blocked, before Eagles hit the low 619 to the knee. Springboard 450 into Ron Miller Special, which would force Eagles to tap out.
