It was not hard to sell fans on a match between Tomohiro Ishii & Eddie Kingston. Taking two of the hardest hitters in the wrestling industry, and throwing them in the ring is almost a certain way to steal the show. Tonight, these two will clash for the first time ever – and very well could tear the house down. It’s Kings Road vs. Strong Style, and even having a fireball thrown at him by Jericho wasn’t stopping Kingston from appearing tonight.
A Dream Match For Many Fans – Tomohiro Ishii & Eddie Kingston
These two brawlers would start the match off with a hard exchange of chops in the middle of the ring. Kingston was able to stun Ishii, who still refused to budge off a shoulder tackle. A chop to the throat and a shoulder tackle just sent Ishii off the ropes, with him able to come back and drop Kingston.
Ishii would be able to keep Kingston on the defensive – until a kick to the face fired the Mad King up. Some more chops would be thrown, before Ishii was planted with a single arm DDT. Going after the arm of Ishii can take away a lot of his power, but an armlock would not keep Ishii down for long.
Kimura Lock would follow, with Kingston looking to roll Ishii over into a full armbar. Ishii instead got the ropes, before absorbing the chops of Kingston and coming back twice as hard. Kingston would continue to up the ante, and nailed a backfist to the neck.
Ishii would be able to nail a saito suplex, dumping Kingston down onto his neck. Kingston was able to kick out at one, before catching a dashing Ishii with a lariat. A chinlock would be applied, but Ishii quickly found the bottom rope.
The Stone Pitbull Takes The Mad King Down
They’d trade open hand strikes in the middle of the ring, with a double knockdown in the end. Kingston was able to nail a Uranage, but Ishii was able to kick out at 2.9 – as close as it came so far. Ishii ducked the backfist before nailing an enziguri, and levelling Kingston with a lariat.
Kingston would block a powerbomb attempt, before nailing a DDT – with Ishii not selling this impact before nailing the sliding lariat for a near fall. Ishii lifted Kingston up and looked for the brainbuster, before Kingston slipped free and nailed two urakens.
Kingston was unable to go right into the pinfall, instead Ishii nailed a lariat and the Vertical Drop Brainbuster. The Mad King was dropped on his crown, and that would be enough to give The Stone Pitbull the big victory.
Lio Rush Is BACK!
Following this match, we’d get the shock return of a hometown boy with Lio Rush. Recently put on the shelf due to injury, he was not on the card for tonight – but was able to get some promo time. He’d say how great it was to be home, but he’s unfortunately not cleared to compete… yet.
Rush is here instead to send a message, namely to some people in the back – and many watching at home. When he is cleared, the entire landscape of the Junior Heavyweight division will be changed by Lio Rush. Just to name a few, Robbie Eagles, Taiji Ishimori, Hiromu Takahashi, and more are all on borrowed time.
Could Lio Rush be an early favourite to win the 2023 Best of the Super Juniors tournament? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
