Remember the Kanye 2020 presidential campaign? Yes, when Kanye West ran for president. Well, there’s another nail in his scuffed political career as the Kanye 2020 campaign committee was scammed out of $3,999 to pay off credit card bills.
The Kanye 2020 Campaign Committee Claims That It Was Scamboozled Out of $4K to Pay Some Random’s Credit Card Bills
If you’re wondering why now—a year and some change after the election—so am I, folks. Kanye 2020 sent a letter to the Federal Election Committee on May 24, 2022, and Business Insider had the specifics of the filing.
In the letter, the campaign claims that it was an “external fraud situation” and that there were three unauthorized transactions out of the campaign account. The first came on December 9, 2021, for $1,474 with a double-tap in February 2022 for $1,280 and $1,245.
Of course, the transactions were reported to the First Bank of Wyoming which managed to push a stop-pay but couldn’t recover the pilfered funds. The FEC noticed the transactions and that they were being used for personal use.
The letter from the Kanye 2020 campaign was obtained by TMZ and pretty much explains that an internal investigation was done and determined that someone outside of the campaign used the funds.
Currently, the FEC is continuing its investigation into the questionable spending of the funds. Kanye West ran as a candidate in the 2020 election but was only on the ballot in a couple of states. At the end of his run, he only managed to pull over 66,000 votes.
