There’s a certain aspect of WWE life we’ve seen over the years with Vince McMahon’s relationship with his talent, and it can be as polarizing as their product.
From what former talent has said, if you’re the perfect company guy Vince will love you and stay loyal until he’s crossed. If the talent argues or defends their position they tend to fall out of favor.
Vince McMahon Mocked and Insulted Bray Wyatt Says Matt Hardy
A perfect example of this is the Fabulous Moolah and the first screw job on Wendi Richter. Richter wanted equal pay for her work and being as popular as Hulk Hogan, and Moolah dressed as the Spider Lady to allegedly take the WWF Women’s Championship from her in the “Original Screwjob.” According to reports, Vince remained loyal to Moolah for the rest of her life for that favor.
King Kong Bundy was on the opposite end of the spectrum when he signed an advertising deal and it took off, but it didn’t include Vince and as a result Vince tried to bury him.
While the WWE did a tribute to Bundy when he passed, Bundy never forgave Vince.
Father like appeal
In many ways, Vince can be looked at like a father figure as he’ll reward or punish when he’s pleased or displeased, and no one’s immune to this.
On hit podcast, Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt talked about how Vince would love Bray Wyatt when he did what Vince liked, then turn around and mock and insult Wyatt when Vince wasn’t happy about something.
“Windham [Bray Wyatt] has always had a very strange relationship with Vince McMahon, very strange, like, I almost felt like Vince looked at him like a son in some ways. When he would do things that he liked, he would love him and he would really give him everything that he could possibly give him.
“He would bend over backwards to try and accommodate him, but then when he did something he didn’t like, it was like he was going to lock him away for good. It was almost like a really weird, a really strange and different duality that Vince shared with Bray. It was really bad and he would punish him and insult him. To me, it was so strange, it was almost like a parent.”
Wyatt was arguably the biggest surprise release on 2021. At the time, he was one of the most popular WWE wrestlers in recent memory but it was reported that Vince soured on him toward the end.
The most likely reason, according to various reports and rumors, was mainly because Wyatt was “difficult” creatively as he was protective of his character.
Sounds familiar given the current walk out situation where Sasha Banks and Naomi reportedly wanted to defend their tag titles at MITB instead of being used in separate championship challenges.
