Right now, there are a few names in NXT 2.0 who are absolutely worth keeping an eye on. Some obvious standouts are the Genetic Freak Bron Breakker, who is every bit as talented as his Steiner family legacy would imply, NXT North American Champion Carmello Hayes, and the absolute hilarity of Tony D’Angelo and his to the point mobster gimmick. However, Joe Gacy has gotten attention above all of them.

His character is evolving by the week. Starting with wanting the ring to be a safe space, and now is starting to feel awful cultish. On the latest episode of NXT 2.0, he would even have the whole world in his hands, and a tall powerhouse at his beck and call in Harland. This all seems familiar to the early days of Bray Wyatt & The Wyatt Family, and could be WWE sending a message.

Joe Gacy Seems To Be Leaning Into A Cult Leader Like Persona

Of course, Bray Wyatt was released from WWE earlier this year, with his 90 day non-compete clause finally ending a few weeks back. Windham will be fine without WWE. His push for control over his character got him a bad reputation with the top brass in WWE. However, he’s already showing signs of a new start and he will absolutely find something that works for him. Never forget that the Firefly Funhouse theme song is a public domain track.

However, WWE always has a need for a Wyatt like character. They are perhaps starting fresh with Joe Gacy. In the ring, Gacy is an all around solid wrestler, as any fan of 2010’s CZW could tell you. Plus he’s made strides in promo & character work since the NXT Breakout tournament. Now as his character expands to bring in Hardland, and Wyatt comparisons ramp up – WWE have just leaned into it. As he gets darker, we could be closer and closer to a preacher with deathmatch experience. Now that would be something in the colorful NXT 2.0.

Bray Wyatt Had The Whole World In His Hands Back In 2014

The whole world in his hands shtick is something Wyatt used back in his feud with John Cena, and that fans have stuck to Wyatt as a whole. Using that might have well been a message sent to Windham, that they can truly release him and recreate another in his place. In the latest promo of Gacy on NXT, he and Harland promised to change the world together into a kinder place.

During this promo, a short clip of a globe nested in someone’s hands was shown, and later made into a gif that was tweeted out by the official WWE NXT twitter account. They wanted to make sure everyone saw this, and the intention wasn’t outright stated, but fans who knew, knew.

Honestly, Gacy has the skills to pull this character off and become a breakout star. And if WWE can get behind it? Him and Harland could really be fantastic together. Harland has yet to get into the ring. But the man behind the character; Parker Bordeaux, has gotten early comparison to Brock Lesnar for his size, looks and ability. So that could well be a force to be reckoned with.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
