The monarchy is currently on the verge of disaster over its future after the result of a special poll showed that young Brits are not in support of the institution. The poll was organised by Techne UK on behalf of Express.co.uk. The results showed that about 46 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 34 believe the royal family will fall once Queen Elizabeth hands over power. However, 51 percent still think that the monarchy will not fall, while three percent did not choose any side.
Young Britons Are Tired Of Monarchy???
From the results, it is clear that more and more young people across Britain are losing their faith in the monarchy. The Monarchy has struggled to enhance its reputation as well as gain respect among the younger generation in Britain. The royal family has not been helped by several high-profile internal issues and scandals that have rocked them over the last few years.
Young Britons Predict The Fall Of Monarchy When Queen Elizabeth’s Historic Reign Ends
Some royal experts even believe that their current position may not even improve with time. However, Tory MP Sir John Hayes has cautioned the young Britons to desist from pushing for the abolition of the monarchy. Speaking in a recent chat with Express.co.uk, Sir John said, “The constitutional monarchy is a critical part of our constitutional settlement.
It’s what provides stability in times of trouble and certainty in times of danger. We are in troubling and dangerous times, we’ve never needed the monarchy more. I think our job now is to inspire young people to know all the good the monarchy brings personified by Her Majesty the Queen, but not solely her, and all of the awful risks that its absence would inevitably mean.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also maintains that the monarchy is “very much part of our DNA”. He claimed that the monarchy would still stand strong when Queen Elizabeth finally leaves power and Prince Charles becomes King. He also insisted that the monarchy “has a habit of reinventing itself when needed.” The royal commentator believes that the monarchy has more than enough tools that will make it survive any opposition.
