On the road to Forbidden Door, Zack Sabre Jr. would call out Bryan Danielson for a match. He wanted to find out just exactly who the greatest professional wrestler in the world is. However, an injury to Bryan Danielson would change these plans. Danielson would try to compete in the event, but AEW owner Tony Khan would have to make a hard choice.
However, instead we will see the fifth man to join the Blackpool Combat Club wrestle ZSJ here, with this left as a mystery on the build to this show. We’d be promised that no one would be let down – which is a big ask for professional wrestling fans.
Claudio Castagnoli Is All Elite, And Is Newest Member Of Blackpool Combat Club
However, when Claudio Castagoli would hit the stage – the entire arena agreed that yes, they were absolutely NOT let down. Following his WWE contract ending earlier this year, he was unsure of his next moves – but he’s here in AEW.ZSJ last wrestled Claudio in 2009, when both men were vastly different wrestlers – and has two wins over Claudio.
He’d waste no time, hitting the running uppercut and Gotch Style Neutralizer, and ZSJ would almost lose the match in 30 seconds – but was able to kick out. ZSJ went to the floor, and followed up with another rushing uppercut. Claudio would have his arm wrenched over the top rope, before hitting a big boot. ZSJ was held upside down with a delayed suplex, before being slammed onto the mat.
He’d head to the apron, and caught a big boot into a knee bar over the ropes. ZSJ would use the apron as a weapon next, applying a calf slicer. Back in the ring, ZSJ would now target the arm – before a twist. While it’s easy to buy the hype of the debuting Claudio, ZSJ won the New Japan Cup earlier this year – and is an absolute killer.
A Technical Wrestling Classic
Claudio would hit another running uppercut, before taking another armbreaker and having the shoulder stomped. ZSJ would flow from limb to limb, from submission to strike – picking Claudio apart. However, he’d take a set of heavy backbreakers, before a rushing uppercut into the corner.
UFO would be set by Claudio, but ZSJ raked his eye and tried to go into the armbar. Claudio would be in a triangle armbar, but powered ZSJ over the ropes. ZSJ held on tight, and Claudio walked him up the ropes and powerbombed him over the top rope.
Big Swing would be blocked into the choke, before ZSJ was placed on the top rope. Running uppercut would land, before a super gutwrench suplex. Big Swing was blocked, but rushing uppercuts were not. Finally, ZSJ was swung around – before he’d snatched the knee of Claudio with a twisted kneebar.
Claudio would block into a sharpshooter, but ZSJ got the bottom rope. Two big uppercuts would land, before ZSJ applied another submission in the ropes – using all of the referee’s five count. ZSJ would hit some kicks to the chest, before a big lariat. Very European Uppercut, and Ricolo Bomb would land – and this one was over.
