AEW owner Tony Khan would finally comment on the situation involving Jeff Hardy earlier this afternoon. He wanted to make contact with Jeff Hardy before making any type of formal announcement, which considering Hardy was held by police for a while – was not an easy task. The resulting statement would say that Jeff is suspended without pay, and needs to go to rehab to return to the ring.
A Similar Statement From AEW’s Past Came To Mind For Fans
The full statement posted by Tony Khan himself would state the following.
“We were able to resume contact with Jeff Hardy this afternoon. AEW does not condone Jeff’s alleged behaviour. We’ve had it clear to Jeff that we’ll assist him in getting treatment for substance abuse issues, which he has indicated that he’s open to receiving. In the interim, he is suspended without pay, and he can only return to AEW upon successfully completing treatment and maintaining his sobriety.”
However, some fans would quickly notice how the wording was similar to what was said by AEW following Jimmy Havoc being called out in the speaking out movement.
“We wish Jimmy Havoc all the best as he receives treatment and counselling in an effort to overcome the mental health and substance abuse challenges in his life. We are aware of the various reports related to Jimmy, we are evaluating his status with our company and will address it when he has successfully completed his rehabilitation.”
Havoc would be quietly released following his treatment, and has since retired from professional wrestling. Pictures would surface of him working as a delivery driver ih the UK in mid-2021, the only real sign of his life following his AEW release.
Jeff Hardy Could End Up Serving 5 Years In Prison
Regardless of what AEW has planned for Hardy, it might not even matter once his court date comes. Jeff Hardy could potentially serve five years in prison for this latest DUI, with his Blood Alcohol level being nearly three times the legal limit. That combined with his previous history makes for a very hard case against Hardy.
The future remains unclear for Jeff Hardy, with an in-ring return seeming less and less likely as more details come out. It would be much harder for AEW to quietly release someone of Hardys status however, which means we can expect a much more public split – if that ends up being the conclusion.
