Last night, fans were excited to see a huge return to the NXT brand in WWE. When reigning NXT Champion Bron Breakker would ask who is brave enough to step up to him as champion, Apollo Crews would come out to a massive reaction. However, this is not simply a quick trip to the brand – but rather a complete move to the brand.
Apollo Crews Knows He Had Missed Potential In NXT
Ever since his premature call up in 2016, WWE fans have been baffled by the choice to take Crews out of NXT before he at least had a fully fleshed out character. To make matters worth, it seemed like he was set to take the NXT Championship off Finn Balor before being taken to the main roster and left without purpose. He would eventually claim both the WWE United States and Intercontinental Championships.
Now however, he’s finally back in NXT – and when he said during his promo “I’m here for as long as I want to be” – that was the truth. Crews himself would even acknowledge his missed potential on the brand, and said that he was going to make up for all that with this run. It’s expected he will challenge either Bron Breakker or Carmelo Hayes at the upcoming NXT 2.0: Great American Bash TV special.
Commander Azez Also Moved Back To NXT Roster
However, Crews is not the only one who would move to NXT. His muscle during his heel run, Commander Azez would also be moved back to the brand. Having also wrestled under the names Dabba Kato & Babatunde, this 6 foot 9 former football player has never really shown his potential in the ring.
Now, he has a second chance to learn in the WWE PC – potentially his last chance. The new directive in NXT is that you get evaluated on your progress every six months, and if WWE doesn’t see improvements? You’re released. It’s a harsh system, but might be what it takes to force the likes of Azez to prove they have a place in the company.
