It is no secret that Nick Diaz will return to the UFC later this year. He announces this on several occasions and makes several callouts. But according to Dana White, these callouts are not justified. Moreover, they are just a ‘dream’ for the younger Diaz brother, because he is not on the level of the people he calls out.
Nick Diaz hasn’t fought in the UFC since September 2021 and hasn’t won a fight since 2012. Despite the fact that before 2012 he is an exceptional fighter and held a record of an 11-win streak, Dana White is not so sure of his capabilities now, after all these years.
Dana White Is Not Putting Nick Diaz Against Kamaru Usman So He Doesn’t Get Hurt
This time Dana White opens up and speaks about Diaz’s call out to Kamaru Usman. Kamaru Usman is a fighter that is in the UFC since 2015, and for these 7 long years, he has had no losses. He is currently the welterweight champion of the UFC and is looking to keep the belt as long as possible.
Dana White thinks that most definitely, the time is not right for the Stockton-native fighter to fight against Kamaru Usman. According to him, Nick doesn’t stand a chance. He is too much out of the game now, and will most probably need some warm-up fights to get used to hits, and to prove himself once more to the promotion.
“Listen, there’s no denying that the Diaz brothers are tough kids. But tell me about Nick Diaz vs. Usman, Usman is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” – Dana White says.
Nick Diaz is the ‘quieter’ one of the Diaz brothers. He doesn’t speak or attack the promotion as much as his brother Nate. Nate Diaz is all the time in a ‘beef’ with the promotion and complains about the pay, about the opponents they choose for him, and for what not. Nate Diaz is facing a retirement fight as well. The next bout that he’ll have will most probably be his last for good.
“Usman is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I need to take care of Nick and make sure Nick doesn’t get hurt. I prepare fights with the best fighters in the world, and how old is Nick? You’re asking me dumb questions.” – Dana White says.
Until this moment, there is no reply from Nick Diaz to these words from President Dana White. However, knowing the brothers, Dana will not like the reply that he’ll get.
When announcing his comeback he is very strict about his demands. “If I’m going to fight, I want to fight for the title. I don’t need to go in there and get my ass kicked by one of those young guys.” – Nick says.
But, if one of the less younger fighters can kick his ass what will Kamaru Usman do to him? Has he thought about it? Or maybe he just wants to come back, take the price money and head straight out once more?
