Conor McGregor is one of the most popular UFC stars, of not the single most popular ever. He doesn’t have a perfect record like Nurmagomedov, or Jon Jones for that matter, but the amount of attention he attracts is unbelievable. This is mostly to his flamboyant stance and trash talk abilities.
However, do not take this the wrong way. He does have skills to back this up as well. Being a complete sensation for UFC fans around the world, after his injury, fans are impatient to see him back in the octagon.
Dana White Reveals That He Wants To See Conor McGregor Against Michael Chandler
Dana White receives numerous questions about The Notorious’ return wherever he goes. “When he will return? Who will he fight? Will he have a title shot directly?” – These are some of the most frequent questions that the UFC president receives.
Some of the sounding names that are flying around when Conor’s comeback is mentioned are Nate Diaz, Henry Cejudo, Michael Chandler, and pretty much everyone that is in the achievable weight of the Notorious.
Finally, after a long period of uncertainty, Dana White takes the stand and reveals what he thinks on the matter. He reveals what would be the best course for Conor McGregor upon his return. In an interview for TMZ sports, he states that the following McGregor fight will be one of the most expected fights in the history of the sport. He makes it clear that nothing is official at the moment, no contracts are backing up the information that he is about to share.
“I really like Michael Chandler against Conor McGregor after Chandler’s last fight. There are plenty of fights to make. I don’t know if that is the one but we’ll see what the landscape looks like when Conor comes back. I’m just saying after his last interview, his last fight, Conor’s ranked No.8, he’s ranked No.5 – It makes a lot of sense now.”
Back in May, Michael Chandler destroys Tony Ferguson in what happens to be one of the fiercest knockouts in the history of the sport. After the bout, when interviewed by Joe Rogan, Chandler shouts out that he wants to fight Conor.
“If Hunter Campbell and Dana White have a momentary lapse in judgment and they give the title shot to someone else, I’ve got one dude on my mind. Conor McGregor, you’ve got to come back and fight somebody. I am the most entertaining lightweight on the planet. But I want to up the stakes, Conor. I want you at your biggest, I want you at your baddest and I want you at your best. You and me at 170 this summer, this fall, this winter. Holler at your boy!” – Michael calls out to Conor.
Conor replies to this almost immediately. He posts on Twitter that he would very much like this to happen. He is confident that he can destroy Chandler and that it would be a ‘firework spectacle’ when they meet.
