The AEW World Championship victory of Hangman Page was an incredible moment, and one that AEW might have issues topping. The reign that followed as full of great matches, with Page defending six times, against Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, Lance Archer & Dante Martin. However, CM Punk would end the reign – before suffering a broken foot. While being champion came with some high highs, Page would detail the pressures of being a champion.
Hangman Page Had A Ton Of Pressure As Champion
During an exclusive interview with Wrestling Inc.’s Nick Hausman, Hangman Page would get a chance to detail his time as AEW World Champion – and how the pressure would get to him. Page would state the following.
“I let the pressure get to me more than I thought I would. I thought I would win the championship and I would be happy, that I would be the perfect version of myself, and I wasn’t, either. It’s not like I didn’t talk to the Dark Order every single week, because I did. But you know, maybe sometimes I was too busy or stressed to do those BTE bits every week. I let that pressure, I guess a friendship, a lot of friendships and I guess that’s, you know, the cynic in me wants to say that’s something that maybe comes with being champion, but I think as a personal thing, maybe that’s a bit of a failure or something to work on.”
Still Won’t Shy Away From Trying To Get Back To The Top
Despite this, Hangman Page is not shying away from more championship chances. He will challenge Jay White for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Forbidden Door. This will be a Fatal Four Way match, with Adam Cole & Kazuchika Okada also in the fray – and that’s as big as a match gets.
Add in that he has plans to try and reclaim the AEW World Championship in due time, and Page is clearly using his first time as champion as a learning experience more than anything else.
