Later tonight, we are set to see The Young Bucks battle Jurassic Express in a ladder match over the AEW World Tag Team Championships. However, prior to Monday, a legendary team was also in the mix – that being Matt Hardy& Jeff Hardy, the Hardy Boyz. Their arrival in AEW was a big deal, and Tony Khan even had plans to put the AEW World Tag Team Championships on the brothers.
As Soon As Two Weeks Ago, Matt & Jeff Hardy Were Set To Become AEW World Tag Team Champions
A recent report from Fightful Select would indicate a few facts from within AEW. As of two weeks two, The Hardy’s were planned to become the next AEW World Tag Team Champions. However, the poor performance of Jeff Hardy at Double or Nothing 2022 would alter those plans. This could have even impacted the results of the night, as many felt Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs were a lock to win the belts from Jurassic Express.
Meanwhile, Jeff Hardy had already been showing signs of alcohol abuse, with him allegedly being intoxicated during WrestleMania weekend, and made a scene in a hotel lobby. All of this would add up to talent being incredibly frustrated with the tag team championship scene. Poor performances and bad behaviour backstage will ruin anyone’s perception of a legend.
Rose Colored Glasses On A Booker Aren’t The Best Look
The idea to put the belts on The Hardy Boyz was a sign that maybe Tony Khan was wearing some rose tinted glasses. He’s a well known longtime wrestling fan, and sometimes that can cloud judgement. The idea of one last epic tag team championship reign from two legends sounds great on paper, but in execution? Both Matt & Jeff Hardy are far beyond their prime, and it shows every single time the bell rang.
With a title change planned, it’s likely that the reign of Jurassic Express is coming to an end. They’ve had a good run, but it should have ended at Double Or Nothing if not sooner. Every reign needs to end eventually, and The Young Bucks might now be the team to end it.
