The dynamic between Prince Harry and Prince William is strained to say the least, and tensions likely soared when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided to invite Prince William and Kate Middleton to their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday party…and they turned down the invitation.
Harry and Meghan decided to open up the occasion to William and Kate after being estranged since 2020 when the Cambridges abandoned the royal family and fled the country. It is unclear whether Harry and Meghan’s invite was meant as a genuine peace offering, or if they simply did it to make themselves look better.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Invited Prince William and Kate Middleton to Lilibet’s Birthday But They TURNED DOWN The Offer
Either way, William and Kate, along with their three children, were not in attendance at Lilibet’s birthday celebration. Young Lilibet’s party took place at Frogmore Cottage on June 4, while William and Kate opted to visit Cardiff Castle for the Platinum Jubilee in the Queen’s honor.
A source revealed that William is hesitant and untrusting of his brother and his wife after their failed attempts to defame the royal family. “William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterwards,” claimed the source.
His caution certainly isn’t unwarranted. Harry and Meghan, along with their Netflix film crew, have been spotted everywhere from the Invictus Games in the Netherlands to a memorial site for children who lost their lives in a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Many have slammed the couple for their flagrant inauthenticity, while pointing out the likelihood that they only want to get captivating footage for their upcoming docu-series.
Queen Elizabeth II has been cordial to Harry and Meghan, and has even met Lilibet privately during the weekend of the Platinum Jubilee. But even Her Majesty is weary of Harry and Meghan’s intentions. The Queen even banned photographers from taking photos of her with Lilibet, for fears that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would only use them to their advantage.
Despite William and Kate being no-shows for Lilibet’s milestone birthday, a source said that the event was delightful. “It was lovely and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished,” they said.
While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kept their distance, they did manage to wish Lilibet a happy birthday via their official Twitter account, saying, “Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today!,” along with a red balloon emoji.
