The couple did not have the most welcoming reception when they touched down in the UK. They were booed, as they exited the ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Not only that, but Harry was pictured looking uncomfortable at being seated opposite his brother Prince William, with whom he tried to obtain eye contact, but to no avail.
And as the couple ultimately ended up making a discreet exit without waiting to see Queen Elizabeth on the final night of her Jubilee, it showed that they no longer commanded the importance that they once had.
In his comments, Tom said: “Harry’s grim expression exposed and confirmed the troubles he now faces. Meghan now faces problems about her status. Netflix are left with a problem: The Sussexes are no longer stars’.”
Those comments do hold some weight for the following reasons. First of all, Harry and Meghan could have waited to see the monarch on the final night.
And this could have been done without being in the presence of the other members of the Royal family. Secondly, there are also serious question marks over whether we will see the couple in the UK again.
After having gotten such a frosty reception, would it be worth their time? That is precisely how Royal expert Angela Levin viewed things.
In her comments, she remarked: “I do wonder if they [Harry and Meghan] decided: We’ve had enough of this, let’s go early’…The truth is that the world, and the Royal Family, has moved on without them.”
The response from the fans on social media was mixed. A certain subset felt the couple had managed to show they were more relevant than ever by being a talking point.
Meanwhile, others stressed they had fallen from grace. One person wrote: “The press cannot stop talking about them,” while another person stated: “A couple of wannabees who have blown it.”
