That is according to Royal author Robert Hardman. This is on the back end of the couple’s underwhelming appearance at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
The visit was characterised by a chorus of boos at the ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ held at St Paul’s Cathedral. And this ultimately led to the couple making an early exit, as they failed to stay until the end of the celebrations.
And after having kept a low profile for most of the festivities, the couple’s brand in the UK is not as strong as it once was. With that being said, there are serious question marks over whether the couple will be able to command the attention of the public.
In his comments, Tom said: “They turned up at the things they said they would turn up at and not at other things. And I think that will have gone a long way toward normalising if you like, their return to these shores.
“And I think in a couple of years it won’t even be newsworthy if they just pop back for something.” Staying away from the media is ultimately what Harry wanted when he left, due to the focus on keeping a private life.
That may be one thing, but there is no denying that he has to forge a life of independence outside of the Royal family. And that has to be done by establishing himself in his own right rather than riding on the coattails of the Royals.
It is going to be much harder than first thought, without the support of his family, who were clearly very distant from him upon his return.
Time will tell if Harry and Meghan can continue to defy the critics. But given what we have seen so far, they are still going strong in spite of the scrutiny that has followed them since their exit.
