The ‘Real Housewives of New York’ may be on an extended hiatus while Bravo exes try to figure out how to recast the show, but Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan are staying booked and busy in the meantime. The two women have reportedly landed a show of their own that will follow a similar format of ‘The Simple Life’, a popular reality series from the early 2000’s that starred Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
According to a source, Luann and Sonja have already signed on the dotted line to “live together in a Middle American town and mingle with the regular folk” while cameras are rolling. Of course, the women of RHONY are accustomed to a more upscale lifestyle, with Luann having once been married to a Count and Sonja being the ex-wife of wealthy businessman John Adams Morgan.
RHONY: Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan To Star In Reality Show Similar To ‘The Simple Life’
“Luann and Sonja of course will be their fabulous selves and each episode will have them interacting with the locals,” we’re told. “They don’t know the locations yet, but it’s going to be somewhere like Kansas or Nebraska, not some hipster Southern town. [Executives] have been holding the locations even from the gals until the last minute,” revealed a source.
The currently untitled show is expected to be green-lit any day now and it is set to start filming in July. This is very exciting news for ‘Real Housewives of New York’ fans, as the demand for stars Luann and Sonja to get a spinoff has always been high. Luann recently appeared on “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip ” on the Peacock network alongside other Housewives staples including Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Kenya Moore, Cynthia Bailey, Kyle Richards, and fellow RHONY costar Ramon Singer.
Luann and Sonja nabbing their own spinoff couldn’t have come at a better time. Bravo has put RHONY on an indefinite pause while they attempt to completely overhaul the show’s cast. “This is the most multicultural, diverse, and energetic and exciting city in America,” said Andy Cohen. “We are searching for a multicultural group of friends who really best reflect the most exciting city in the country. We’re looking for a group of women who are real friends, and who are of diverse backgrounds, races and religions.”
The network announced their plans to split RHONY into two shows – one that will feature a new more diverse group of women, and another that has been loosely titled “RHONY: Legacy”. The ‘legacy’ series is set to feature iconic cast members of the franchise from both past and present. While there is currently no set date for either of the RHONY installments, Luann and Sonja should be making a return to the small screen sooner rather than later.
