When she was part of the NXT roster, everyone saw massive potential in Shotzi Blackheart as a babyface. She would show some incredible in-ring skills with gutsy performances in gauntlet and hardcore matches, and everyone was hyped to see her roll to the ring in her signature tank. That combined with her punk rock look really helped her stand out – but she wouldn’t keep her full presentation upon hitting the main roster.
Shotzi Blackheart Didn’t Choose To Go Without Her Tank
While speaking with Ryan Satin on the Out Of Character podcast, Shotzi would have a chance to explain why she no longer has her tank. It was not her choice, as revealed in the following quote.
“That wasn’t my decision, but I’m embracing the change because I’ve been ‘the ballsy badass’ my entire career, even on the Indies, I was always looked at as a babyface. It’s nice after seven years later to finally change up the character and find something new within me. I think I’m finally grabbing the horns and rolling with it.”
Considering how much WWE focuses on selling merchandise, it’s shocking they didn’t lean into the tank. It is practically a licence to print money, as young fans would be drawn to Blackheart, and would likely beg their parents for a replica version. Even having a smaller version for action figures would be likely to be a hot seller.
Without the tank, Blackheart is still able to stand out, but not nearly as much. Her character just comes off as just another wrestler on the roster, and has made what could have been a bright and colorful character. However, WWE changes their mind on things quite often, and we could well see her roll to the ring in a tank once again.
