Over the years, we’ve heard all sort of stories about Vince McMahon and how he’ll react to one thing or another.
One thing many former talents have said is Vince has his favorites, and he either likes someone or he doesn’t for reasons that are his own.
Former WWE Superstar Simon Gotch had a decent early WWE career during NXT (tag team champion) and then the main brand with his tag team partner Aiden English (Mathew Rehwoldt) between 2013 and 2016.
Then the wheels came off in 2017 when he was released following WrestleMania 33.

Wyatt’s advice
The reason why he was released is surprising to some extent as he recently explained on the Café de Rene with Rene DuPree.
Simon explained that he was advised not to talk to Vince by Bray Wyatt, who said Vince wouldn’t like his personality.
Simon didn’t heed his advice, and the timing of him sharing ideas with Vince and his release have gotten sone wondering if they’re related.
“I got told early on by Bray Wyatt, who was always very kind, he said, ‘Don’t ever talk to Vince.
“An observation similar to what you made about me, Rene, he had said, ‘Vince will not like your personality,’ and it would not behoove me to go in and speak to him directly.”
Wyatt was respectful when he gave the advice, but after a year on the main roster, Simon was frustrated with his booking.
So, he took the initiative and approached Vince and pitched him some of his creative ideas and said he thought Vince was receptive to him.
“I went in, I talked to Vince, I pitched an angle, he seemed to like it. And I got fired like two weeks later… I should have (listened to Wyatt) but, at the end of the day, it was one of those deals where, for the sake of my own sanity, I needed that to happen.”
Whether or not Wyatt’s warning was right and that led to Simon’s release is something only Vince knows for sure, but it’s another tale a former talent has shared with us.
As fans, we love these stories as it gives us an insight into what goes on backstage, but it’s a double edged sword as they often leave us wondering about some decision making.
In many ways, it’s similar to the old adage “never meet your heroes” because we never know if it’ll be a positive or negative experience.
Hindsight being 20/20, Simon probably would’ve been better served to follow Wyatt’s advice, but it’s understandable why he didn’t. It’s had to do something without understanding why or offering our own suggestions.
What do you think? Did Vince fire Simon because of their conversation or was their another reason? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
