UFC superstar Conor McGregor has been out of action – at least in the Octagon – since July 2021. McGregor broke his leg fighting Dustin Poirier, and has been sidelined ever since. However, a recent interview with Sky Sports Boxing reveals that “The Notorious” only a single clear CT scan away from returning to full contact training. His inevitable return to the UFC aside, McGregor also revealed that he fully intends to box once again as well.
“The body’s doing good. I’m out here with my whole team, I’m going to enjoy the Monaco Grand Prix and then after that we’re going to up the training a little bit, bit by bit. I should be able to kick now. I have another CT scan in the coming days and then I’ll be cleared to kick.
McGregor Reportedly One CT Scan Away From Return
Once I can kick and grapple, I’ll be back in no time. Boxing training is going well and strength training, and that’s all. I’m excited to get back.”
Conor McGregor is still eyeing a return to boxing. He is currently 0-1 as a boxer, with his sole pro fight thus far being the record-breaking fight against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. Mayweather has since taken to novelty fights against the likes of Logan Paul, embracing his retirement, while Conor McGregor returned to the UFC, winning only once across four fights.
Perhaps that abysmal record is tempting McGregor back to the squared circle. “Boxing is my first love in combat sports, is boxing.
I had such a great time the last time I was out there. Obviously my return will be inside the Octagon for the UFC in mixed martial arts.
That story is far from over. In fact, that story is just being wrote, it’s just beginning. So that’s where I’ll make my return. But boxing for sure, I will grace the squared circle again for sure in the future.”
McGregor, once simultaneous champion of both the UFC featherweight and lightweight divisions, has had a less than stellar run since. He has not won a single fight at lightweight apart from his historic title win over Eddie Alvarez. He has consistently teased that he might return at welterweight, to fight Kamaru Usman for the 170-pound title. Meanwhile, lightweights like contender Michael Chandler and champion-elect Charles Oliveira want a piece of the McGregor payday.
