Right now on Smackdown Live, there are really only two big storylines to follow. The Bloodlines iron grip on the World & Tag Team title scenes, and The New Day’s endless war with The Brawling Brutes. The new faction of Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch have really been a thorn in the side of The New Day, even leading to Big E being taken off TV with a broken neck. However, Xavier Woods is looking past them – and hopes to claim singles gold soon in WWE.
Xavier Woods Has Plans For When He’s Free Of Brawling Brutes
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Xavier Woods would poke fun at just how long they’ve been dealing with The Brawling Brutes. He would also reveal his potential future plans for the summer.
“King’s log: Yesterday counted the 14th week that we have fought Sheamus, Ridge, and Butch. That’s more than a quarter of this year. Once we are rid of them I can focus on Ricochet and the IC title.”
Winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship would mean that every single member of The New Day would have held the belt. Kofi Kingston held the belt on four different occasions, while Big E has held it twice. As of the time of writing, Xavier Woods sole singles accolade in WWE is winning King of the Ring in 2021.
He Might Need To Get Through GUNTHER To Claim The Belt However
While Woods is aiming at the current champion, he will be wise to watch next week’s episode of Smackdown Live very closely. Ricochet is set to defend his championship against the dominant GUNTHER, a match which he is not projected to win. Given the dominance of GUNTHER as the NXT UK Champion – if he gets hold of the WWE Intercontinental Championship, it will be hard to take it away from him.
That being said, Woods vs. GUNTHER would be an incredible clash of styles, and a great babyface showcase for Woods. His skills as a tag team wrestler are well renowned, but he’s just as capable when wrestling solo.
