Becky Lynch and Asuka Checking on Each Other Tops Their No Holds Barred Match

On July 4th’s WWE Monday Night Raw, the show’s main event was the final match in Becky Lynch and Asuka’s recent feud and it was a No Holds Barred Match.

Despite the hype and both of their efforts, the match came across more like a sputtering effort than not.

Lynch and Asuka did they best they could, but it seemed like they either weren’t used to these types of matches with a couple of hesitations when setting something up or grabbing a weapon. It could also be they weren’t given as much time as they expected or needed to do what they had planned.

Given how infrequently the WWE does these kinds of matches in general, and rarely with their women’s division, it could be any number of things.

Still, it was an entertaining match. They gave it their all and it ended with Lynch hitting a Man Handle Slam off the middle rope and through a table.

    The most memorable moment

What’s made headlines since then isn’t their match, but that they checked on each other afterwards.

It’s a standard practice we see regularly when one wrestler squeezes another arm and so on after a big move when they go to the floor, through a table, etc.

Like Bret Hart has said, a wrestler’s main job is to ensure their opponent goes home in the same condition as they went to work. Accidents sometimes happen, but it’s a general rule.

For long time pro wrestling fans, it wasn’t anything new and that’s opened speculation as to why it’s being mentioned so reverently.

One possibility is it’s a positive highlight of the match, and focusing on it takes attention for the match itself.

More likely in our opinion is this is something that some fans haven’t seen much of, either through a lack of TV angles or a lack of safety concern between wrestlers.

    Safe working environment?

Randy Orton as said he’s experienced first hand that some NXT stars aren’t worried about protecting others, and when he’s been in the with them he’s had to worry more about protecting himself then others.

There have been a few notable botches recently, but Ridge Holland dropping Big E on his head and breaking his neck is at the top of the list.

Seeing Lynch and Asuka do such a simple gesture has given WWE fans something positive to focus on, but will this lead to more scrutiny on botches and safety overall going forward?
