Many fans still long for the late 90’s boom period of professional wrestling. Dubbed the Monday Night Wars, fans say WCW Monday Nitro & WWF Monday Night RAW go head to head in the same timeslot. Both companies were able to push each other to higher levels of competition, and it led to the creation of many great matches and moments.
Karrion Kross Feels NXT Talent Were Too Focused On Competing With AEW
However, the Wednesday Night Wars between WWE NXT & AEW Dynamite was hardly comparable. NXT was dominated and shoved to Tuesday Night. Former two time NXT Champion Karrion Kross has a theory as to why this was, and it’s down to being too focused on competition, rather than putting on a strong show.
Karrion Kross Feels More Talent Needed To Focus On Being Entertaining
While speaking with Steve Fall for NBC Sports Boston, Karrion Kross would have a chance to speak about what it was like in the NXT locker room during this head to head period. He’d be quoted saying the following about if a feeling of competition existed.
“Probably. I don’t think anyone would’ve come to me with that though. The reason being is I’m pretty even keel. My focus is always on producing the best of the time that’s given to me for the show. So, to give an example, I was just most interested in being as entertaining as possible with the time that was given in the show, in the vignettes, and stuff like that. I would get with teams of people and I would just focus on that.
I do know that there are some people who focus way too much on what other people are being paid, and their quartelys, and what the demographics are, and stuff like that. At the end of the day, I hate to say it, it’s true though, as a wrestler, you can only be accountable for so much. So, if you’re going to concern yourself with details that are completely out of your control, you’re not going to enjoy this anymore. I’ve seen it. I’ve seen people drive themselves insane.”
