In case you missed it, former Kanye West collaborator Kid Cudi has replaced West as the headliner for Rolling Loud Miami 2022. Ye was supposed to be one of three headliners alongside Future and Kendrick Lamar but it was announced on July 17, 2022 that the Donda artist would be dropping out of the major hip-hop festival.
Kid Cudi Replaces Kanye West as Rolling Loud Miami 2022 Headliner
In speaking with TMZ about replacing Kanye West days before the festival kicks off, co-founders Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingler said:
“We were looking forward to Ye headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2022. We spent months working with him and his team on the performance. Unfortunately, Ye has decided that he will no longer be performing. This is the first time a headliner has ever pulled off our show and though we don’t take it lightly, we wish him the best.”
On the bright side, the duo is optimistic about seeing Cudi in the headliner spot—as they should be since they put him in the spot. West’s reason for pulling out of the tour is unknown.
While the move won’t hurt Kanye’s bookings, it is the second time this year that the veteran rapper has pulled out of a big festival. He stepped away from headlining spot at Coachella 2022 which was filled by The Weeknd.
The choice of Kid Cudi as Kanye’s replacement is interesting as the two aren’t on good terms. Cudi was a member of Ye’s GOOD Music label for several years before leaving in 2013 with no bad blood.
Things turned sour for the two after Kanye West had something to say about the “Marijuana” artist’s friendship with Pete Davidson. This would result in Cudi publicly distancing himself from West who wasn’t having the best start to 2022 publicity-wise due to his antics against Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson.
Rolling Loud Miami 2022 starts on July 22 with Kid Cudi closing on the first day.
